FOREWORD

 PROF. DR. SHAHRIL BIN YUSOF

DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR, ACADEMIC & INTERNATIONAL

Dear respected colleagues,

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) now hosts a growing community of Technology-Enabled Learning (TEL) practitioners who have been trained and supported over the years by the Centre for E-learning (CEL). This support has come in the form of the development of specific TEL skills as well as the provision of educational resources and technological tools for the development and hosting of content that has been designed and developed for Teaching and Learning.

This website, which is hosted by CEL is an official platform for our esteemed academicians to showcase and present their innovative practices in the area of T&L. UMS has provided hardware and licensed software for recording and hosting lectures in online mode, and the academicians are now called upon to utilize these teaching tools for the development of teaching material which can be delivered on our official learning management system SmartUMS Ver.3. This website will serve as a platform for educators to deposit examples of their best practices in T&L for the benefit of the UMS community of practitioners to support the visibility of our academic talents globally.

I look forward to your cooperation and support in fostering the spirit of online teaching and learning at UMS in keeping with our vision of evolving into an innovative university of global standing.

Dear respected colleagues,

Welcome to “TEL-Practices @ UMS”.

The COVID-19 pandemic, movement control order, social distancing are all new experiences that have DISRUPTED every aspect of our conventional face-to-face lecture, tutorial classes, laboratories and clinics in UMS. For the continual education of our students, we must adopt innovative and creative approaches to teaching & learning and assessment.

Despite various limitations in this period of Movement Control Order (MCO) and social distancing, many of you managed to achieve your CLOs through activities using various appropriate technology tools (TPACK) . We invite you to share your experiences in overcoming problem and issues related to any aspect of T&L online, facilitation of students’ activities, online assessments, success in reaching out to students in low or no internet connectivity and low bandwidth locations etc.

“TEL Practices @ UMS” serve as an interactive sharing-cum-learning platform among all our academic staff.

I sincerely hope in this extraordinary time, together as a virtual Community of Practitioners (vCoP) we shall continue to encourage and inspire one another with our sharing.

I thank you for your participation and contribution.
