Course Synopsis: The course discusses various spectrometric methods used in the characterization of organic compounds which covers IR, NMR (1-D and 2-D), MS and UV-VIS. Emphasis is given to the understanding of the principles and rules in order to interpret spectra and to determine organic structures efficiently. The students are exposed to available databases (library and Internet resources) and Chewdraw (NMR) for comparison and determination of organic structures.

Course Learning Outcome:

1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts, principles and techniques of various spectrometric methods

2. Determine data of model compounds from numerous correlation tables as well as related computer software

3. Interpret and deduce organic structures using spectra or a combination of various spectra

Course synopsis : This course discusses and explore environmental laws components will be discussed which include global and national issues of environment, constitution and environment, Malaysia legal system, challenges of implementing and enforcing environmental laws in Malaysia, glossary of legal terms, law pertaining to court prosecution, process compel appearance in court and summary trial. This course will also evaluate the roles of various environmental practitioner namely investigation and prosecuting officer to compel appearance of accused person in court and to prosecute polluters in court respectively. Mock trial will be carried out towards the end of the course.

Course Learning Outcome:

1. Illustrate the challenges of implementing and enforcing environmental Environment Quality Act 1974 (Act 127)

2. Display the role of law regarding constitutional provisions for the protection of environment.

3. Explain the application and process to compel appearance of accused person in court and perform duties as an Investigation Officer (IO) and Prosecuting Officer (PO)

Brief description of experiences / presentation submitted: I'm using Smartv3, google classroom and Screencastomatic software in my distance learning. All class notes and lecture videos are uploaded into LMS and I usually give short quiz after each lesson to check student's understanding. My lecture videos are recorded using Screencast-O-matic software and I will upload all the videos into my Youtube ums account before shared with the students.

I've also using an interactive ebook from Runestone Academy for lab programming and assignments where students can interact directly in the ebook and get instant feedback. This is really helping students doing their self directed learning on their own pace.
