Course Synopsis: This course focuses on the importance of effective housekeeping operations and management, which are fundamental to understanding the subject areas covered. It introduces students with an understanding of the way that housekeeping operations function through the adoption of managing effective housekeeping personnel, contracts and outsourcing, cleaning procedures, standard contents of a guestroom, budgeting, supervision and standard safety and security requirements. This will facilitate a critical appraisal of the effectiveness of a particular operational types and an evaluation of the potential improvement.

Lecturer's activity

  1. Initially, lecture is conducted via WebEx and is recorded for students who can not attend the online lecture. However, Some students have difficulties in downloading/opening the file, maybe due to their internet line limitation and large file size of the video itself. Thus, the best solution for this current situation is using Microsoft PowerPoints by record audio to provide narration for the lecture note.

Course Name: COMMERCIAL LAW

Course Synopsis: The course aims to provide the students with a general understanding of legal issues in a business environment. The course enables the students to develop an understanding of the legal framework of business, to develop an understanding of the purpose and logic of the law, to develop a vocabulary which will be helpful in the future and to develop a general knowledge of how the law affects the business world. The important aspects to be covered in this course include introduction to the Malaysian legal system, business entities, law of contract in particular, on the elements of a valid and enforceable contract, conditions and warranties, discharge of contract, remedies, doctrine of privity and exemption clauses. The course also discussed the law of agency, the law relating to sales of goods, consumer protection law, introduction to employment law and introduction to intellectual property law.

Brief description of presentation submitted

The presentation covers how lectures and tutorials are handled for BT20403. The course has more than 300 students, and a survey has been conducted to ask students for their views on teaching and learning that suit their present circumstances. Most students have the same issue, i.e., internet instability. Therefore, lectures are conducted asynchronously. Apart from uploading relevant reading materials and copies of lecture notes in advance through Smartv3, the lecturer has created an audio recording slide/video for students (provided weekly) explaining the lecture notes, relevant legal provisions in the Statute such as the Contracts Act 1950 and decided cases to help students understand the complex legal elements. For tutorials, students are required to provide their answers or responses to particular questions either in writing or as a video via Flipgrid and Padlet applications. This approach makes it easier for the lecturer to evaluate the students' progress and to assess whether they understand the lectures that have been delivered or otherwise. Apart from using Smartv3ums, the lecturer uses Telegram to communicate and discuss with students for two hours every Friday, 2.00-4.00pm (actual lecture time). For the tutorial, the lecturer also uses WhatsApp to connect with students every week based on their tutorial time in smaller groups of up to 25 people per group

Students enrolled in this elective Food Preparation course will participate in activities provided with guidance from their instructor. In addition, this course also aims to expose the student with basic food service operations highlighting some cuisines learnt during class.

Brief description of presentation submitted: Students creating their own recipe videos just like the ones you see all over social media! My students created their videos during at their places. But the beauty of this project is that it is versatile enough to use with any food unit!

Course Synopsis: The course aims to give a basic understanding to students on the legal aspect of international business transactions. It seeks to explain the relevant law applicable in a particular business transaction crossing national borders as it involves complicated and complex legal framework. It emphasizes the principles and underlying assumptions of international business and the law. The topics to be covered include an overview to international legal environment, the rule on conflict of laws, international contract of sale, international contracts involving carriage of goods such as CIF, FOB etc., special provisions in international contract such as choice of law, force majeure, hardship etc., the various modes of payment involving bills of exchange and letters of credit, and the various methods of dispute resolution available to parties such as negotiation, mediation, litigation, conciliation and arbitration, insurance relating to exportation and finally on the protection of international intellectual property. The course will review and discuss a number of law cases decided by national courts and international tribunals, as well as treaties, resolutions and other international legal instruments of importance.
